I love September – it’s warm and gorgeous outside my office window and as I watch, I can see people enjoying their weekend. Australians just seem that bit happier with life.

It’s also that time of the year when we’re in that serious revenue producing part of the year for most businesses (and their owners). And let’s face it, it’s getting harder and harder to get through everything you’ve got to get through on a daily basis to achieve your desired revenue levels.

And, if you’re a business owner, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, you’re likely to be working well in excess of 50hrs a week – and yes, that probably includes quite a few of your weekends.

So How Do You Stay Focused Until You Get Your Next Break?

1. Plan Your Next Break Now

Research has shown that planning something wonderful can be as much fun as the actual doing of the something fun. So start your planning now and during those times where you have to dig in, you’ll have something to look forward to. If it’s something that you’ll have to reach a certain revenue goal or point in a project to undertake, so much the better for keeping you focused.

Put an image of whatever it is you’re planning on your wall – to remind yourself of what you’ve got to achieve to get it.

2. Undo Your To-Do List

We’ve all had those moments where our to-do list goes over a couple of pages. All that does is make you feel overwhelmed. By all means, have a place where you write everything down. But look at it once a day so you can transfer just your top three things – that if you achieved nothing else today, you’d still be in front – onto a post-it note and start there. Only if you finish those tasks do you look for something else off the larger list.

We’ve been using something called postpone app that lets you put stuff off until another time – effectively clearing your immediate to do list whilst keeping the all important list in one place.

Next week – we’ll have another three great tips, so stay tuned.

Of course, if we can help you get closer to your goals by helping you focus on what’s important for your business, we’d be delighted to talk to you. We’re best reached on 9994 8000 or you can drop us a note.
